One of the quite epic new features in WordPress 7.0 is the ability to create custom blocks with PHP only.
It really is truly powerful — especially for those folk that have come from a pure PHP/classic theme background and haven’t quite got their head round the whole React/JS thing as yet.
My contribution with this video is, as always, a self-centred use-case that in no way shape or form utilises the full power of this new WordPress 7 feature! But this super quick hack solves a problem within the block editor interface that’s bugged me for years — it’s when you’re creating pages or templates or anything that involves, believe it or not, putting a WordPress shortcode on your page.
