Feeling slightly chuffed and a little pleased with myself because I love it when I come across something that makes my life easier, solves a problem, and does it in the most elegant and lightweight way.
So, as you know, I’m a big fan of the Gutenberg block editor — however, if you follow this channel at all, you already know that I know that you know… that the block editor has a couple of shortcomings 🙂
And I’ve kind of made it my mission to overcome these where I find them and share that with you lovely people 🙂
Now… the core button block has some of those limitations, and a while back I showed you how I go about adding icons to buttons — and it works really well — but I recently put together a new way of getting icons on our buttons!
It’s utilising font icons — and it’s not like the bad old days of “Font Awesome” loading about 200kb of font files on every page. We’re talking about one or two KB using this method — so super lightweight. And the other bonus is because the icons are fonts, they take on the colour of the button text. All in all it’s a winner in every dimension 🙌
