My Free Starter Block Theme just got an update!

If you want to build a block-based website or design a theme directly in the browser, you need a true blank canvas. While there are brilliant “starter-ish” themes out there like Ollie WP, Frost, and Powder, they often come with a shed load of patterns, fonts, and style variations that won’t match your design.

My Starter Block Theme Version 4 is different. It has absolutely zero opinion. It provides only the essential files and settings you need to get building immediately upon activation, using purely default core blocks.

🔥 What’s New in Version 4?

• Baked-in Responsive CSS Framework: The responsive framework has been completely overhauled and is now built directly into the theme.
• CSS Class Manager Integration: Upon activation, the theme automatically prompts you to install the outstanding CSS Class Manager plugin by Edi Amin.
• Built-in Font Icons: A tiny curated icon font (around 2kb!) that allows you to easily add icons to elements like buttons using just a CSS class, seamlessly inheriting text colors.
• Style Guide Pattern: A brand new built-in pattern that drops all your main blocks onto a single page so you can see them all update at once while you style your new project.
• Cleaned Up Files: General file structure cleanup and a tweaked theme.json.

👉 Important note for previous users: This is a starter theme, meaning it is a blank slate for a brand-new project. You don’t install V4 over V3 as an update, and do not use a child theme. Once you start customising it with the Block Editor, you own the code and it becomes your own custom theme!
