Here’s the FIX for WordPress Mobile Menus AND the Navigation Block!

It’s true, I am a WordPress Block Theme fanboy – love the speed, love the Editor – I love nearly everything!

But as you’ve seen on this channel I’m always ready to call out the shortcomings of the Block Editor and Block theming and of course offer solutions to fix them.

And I’d say the one I’m calling out today definitely has some big issues (second only to lack of responsive settings!) and it is the “Navigation Block” and alongside it, the new menu management system in the editor. And then, there’s the mobile menu… holy moly…

Now don’t get me wrong, since being introduced in Jan 2022 with WordPress 5.9 it has been refined significantly over the past 3 years, and to be fair I’m totally fine with for a basic site it’s totally fine -BUT! For large complex menus, or if you a complex mobile menu design it’s a non-starter.

So what are the issues and how are we going to fix them ?

1. It’s really fiddly to use in the Site Editor – and pretty confusing
2. Nearly all new users find it completely confusing
3. Users that knew the old Menu system under “Appearance” nearly all prefer that interface especially when managing large and complex menus
4. And my personal biggest shortcoming, the Mobile Menu – it’s super limited as to what you can put in there, there’s no separate styling for it, and for large menus with lots of sub menus, it’s a disaster!

So here’s what we’re gonna do:

1. Get back the old menu editor screen under appearance
2. Set our Navigation Blocks to use that
3. Totally replace the default Mobile Menu with something rather special
